An explosion in the early hours of Tuesday rocked the General Hospital located in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State, triggering swift security response and heightened alert in the area.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in Kebbi State, SP Bashir Usman, stated that security agencies immediately took control of the situation following the blast. He assured residents that the Kebbi State Police Command has fully secured the area and that there is no cause for panic.
According to him, a joint security team comprising officers of the Nigeria Police Force, the military, and local vigilante operatives was deployed to cordon off the hospital premises. In addition, specialists from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) unit were brought in to thoroughly assess the scene and rule out further threats.
SP Usman disclosed that no lives were lost in the incident. He explained that although a building within the hospital’s staff quarters sustained damage, all occupants had earlier evacuated the facility and were therefore unharmed.
He further revealed that the Commissioner of Police in Kebbi State has ordered the deployment of additional tactical teams to the area to maintain law and order, strengthen security presence, and reassure residents of their safety.
The police spokesperson added that a comprehensive investigation has commenced to determine the cause of the explosion, noting that the public will be duly informed as more details emerge.
Residents were urged to remain calm and to avoid the immediate vicinity of the hospital to allow security operatives carry out their duties effectively while investigations continue.
