Nigeria’s march toward becoming a global hub for science, technology, and innovation received a major boost as the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, officially launched the DELTA-2 Second Call for Proposals, a bold initiative designed to transform research into tangible national development.
The program, implemented by the Projects for Innovation, Coordination, Technology Transfer (PICTT) in partnership with the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), is poised to accelerate applied research that will deliver new products, processes, and services. Beyond enhancing Nigeria’s global competitiveness, DELTA-2 is expected to create jobs, stimulate industries, and expand market opportunities both locally and internationally.
Minister Nnaji highlighted that the priority areas—agriculture, renewable energy, mining, health, advanced manufacturing, digital mobility, climate technology, and defence innovations—are deliberately aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which places innovation at the core of Nigeria’s economic rebirth.
“Through DELTA-2, innovators and companies will not only access funding support of up to 70% of project costs but also connect with international research networks and markets. This is research for impact, not research for the shelves,” the Minister declared.
Chief Uche Nnaji commended NASENI, PICTT, and other partners for their vision, stressing that the initiative is a golden opportunity for Nigerian researchers, entrepreneurs, and innovators to seize the future.
He further urged stakeholders across the innovation ecosystem to take full advantage of the call, emphasizing that the world is advancing rapidly and Nigeria cannot afford to be left behind.
The launch of DELTA-2 not only reinforces the government’s determination to make Nigeria a leader and exporter of solutions but also shines as a testament to President Tinubu’s drive to build a knowledge-driven economy powered by science and technology.
As the program unfolds, optimism runs high that Nigeria’s ingenuity, backed by strong government commitment, will position the nation as a continental trailblazer and global competitor in innovation and technology.
