Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted Dr. Muhammed Egye Osolafia, popularly known as Deedat, the Senior Special Assistant on Humanitarian Services to Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, plunging the state capital into tension and fear.
The incident occurred on Saturday night at Osolafia’s residence in the Tudun Amba area of Lafia shortly after he returned home. Eyewitnesses reported that the armed assailants stormed the neighborhood, firing sporadically into the air to scare residents before heading directly for their target. Osolafia was whisked away to an unknown destination, and his current whereabouts remain unknown.
Confirming the abduction, Mr. Peter Ahemba, Senior Special Adviser to Governor Sule on Public Affairs, described the development as “sad and unfortunate.” Ahemba said he received news of the attack from another colleague and expressed deep concern over the rising insecurity in the state.
The latest incident comes barely two months after Barrister Yusuf Musa, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Culture, was similarly kidnapped from his residence in the Ungwan Nungu area of Lafia, underscoring a troubling trend of targeted abductions of top government officials.
Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer of the Nasarawa State Command, SP Ramhan Nansel, for official comments were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report, leaving residents anxious for updates as security operatives intensify search efforts.
The abduction of Dr. Osolafia has sparked widespread concern across Nasarawa State, with calls for urgent action to curb the spate of kidnappings and ensure the safe release of the governor’s aide.
