Enugu Government Condemns Murder of Catholic Priest, Offers N10 Million Bounty for Perpetrators
The Enugu State Government has condemned in strong terms the gruesome killing of Rev. Fr. Mathew Eya, a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka, who was shot dead by unknown assailants on Friday, September 19, 2025, along the Alumona–Eha Ndiagu road in Nsukka Local Government Area.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dr. Malachy Uchenna Agbo, the government described the attack as cowardly and cold-blooded, assuring residents that those behind the crime will be tracked down and brought to justice. Dr. Agbo emphasized that the government has the technology, human resources, and the determination to “defeat the remnant workers of evil in the state.”
To aid the investigation, the government announced a ₦10 million reward for anyone with credible information that could lead to the arrest of the killers. Citizens with useful intelligence are urged to call 07077451426 to assist security agencies in their efforts.
While commiserating with the bereaved family, the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka, and the entire Catholic faithful, the state government reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring that the murder of Fr. Eya will not go unpunished.
