Bayelsa State has taken a major step toward energy independence as gas turbines with a combined capacity of 60 megawatts procured by Governor Douye Diri have arrived in the state.

According to official updates, the turbines will be installed at the independent power plant currently under construction. Once operational, the facility is expected to deliver a 24-hour power supply to most parts of Bayelsa, significantly reducing dependence on the national grid.

Government sources say the project is designed to boost the local economy, enhance industrial growth, and improve the overall quality of life for residents by ensuring reliable electricity for businesses and households.

Governor Diri described the arrival of the turbines as a “historic milestone” in his administration’s drive to transform Bayelsa into a hub of sustainable energy and economic development.
