In a landmark development for volleyball in Nigeria, the Chairman of Volleyball Association of Nigeria Enugu State, Comrade Kingsley Nwosu, a respected youth leader, seasoned sports administrator, and passionate advocate for grassroots sports development, has been elected as the South-East Zonal Representative on the Nigerian Volleyball Federation (NVBF) Board. The keenly contested election took place on Monday, September 22, 2025, at the prestigious Package B Arena of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, attracting key stakeholders and volleyball enthusiasts from across the country.
The great event attracted delegates from different zones who gathered in Abuja to chart a new course for the future of Nigerian volleyball. When the final votes were counted, Comrade Nwosu’s emergence was greeted with loud cheers and an outpouring of goodwill from athletes, coaches, and administrators, especially from the South-East zone, who described his victory as a “win for dedication, competence, and vision.”
Comrade Kingsley Nwosu is not a newcomer to the volleyball community. Widely known as “Coach Niger”, Nwosu is a former international volleyball player and coach who has travelled extensively across the globe, representing Nigeria and promoting the sport he loves. His illustrious career has taken him from local volleyball courts to international arenas, where he showcased not only his athletic skill but also his unwavering commitment to youth development and sports excellence.
Currently serving as the Enugu State Chairman of the Volleyball Association of Nigeria, Nwosu has been instrumental in reviving the sport at the grassroots level across the state. Under his leadership, Enugu’s volleyball teams are undergoing intensive preparations for the 2026 National Sports Festival, which the state is set to host. This effort is in alignment with the visionary agenda of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, who has prioritized sports as a key driver of youth empowerment, unity, and economic growth.
Beyond volleyball, Nwosu’s influence extends into youth leadership and entrepreneurship. He is the Chairman of the NANS Stakeholders Forum, where he advocates for student welfare and youth inclusion in governance, and the Chief Executive Officer of Volt Night Club, a vibrant leisure and hospitality brand in Nsukka. These roles reflect his diverse talents and his ability to balance sports administration with business acumen and social engagement.
Nwosu’s election comes at a time when Enugu State is intensifying preparations to host and win the 2026 National Sports Festival. Governor Peter Mbah has already inaugurated a Local Organising Committee (LOC) chaired by Nigeria’s track legend and Olympic bronze medalist Mary Onyeali, signaling his administration’s commitment to excellence. As head of the state’s volleyball association, Nwosu has pledged to ensure that Enugu not only hosts a world-class festival but also dominates in volleyball events, showcasing the state as a hub for sporting talent and achievement. Observers say his new role on the NVBF Board will further strengthen this drive, enabling him to attract national and international partnerships, enhance infrastructure, and create opportunities for young athletes in the South-East.
Shortly after his victory, Comrade Nwosu released a heartfelt message of gratitude to his supporters, describing the election as a collective triumph. His statement reads:
