BREAKING!! Governor Declares Tuesday, September 23 Public Holiday

The Akwa Ibom State Government has declared Tuesday, September 23, 2025, a work-free day in celebration of the state’s 38th anniversary. This was announced on Monday by the Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, who stated that all government offices and public institutions are to observe the holiday.

Umanah noted that Governor Umo Eno extends warm wishes to all citizens and residents of the state, urging them to celebrate joyfully and peacefully. Akwa Ibom was created on September 23, 1987, by then-Military President Ibrahim Babangida, following its separation from Cross River State.

With a population of over five million people and abundant natural resources, including crude oil and natural gas, Akwa Ibom remains one of Nigeria’s key economic hubs. The anniversary celebrations have become a yearly tradition, featuring an interdenominational church service, cultural events, and a state banquet to honour the occasion.

The government is expected to host a series of activities on the day to reflect on the state’s achievements since its creation and to foster unity among its people.
