The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has granted administrative bail to the former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari.
Kyari, on Wednesday, honoured an invitation by the EFCC over an alleged $7.2 billion fraud during his tenure as head of the nation’s oil company. He was expected to account for funds allocated to the maintenance of Nigeria’s refineries.
The former NNPCL boss was relieved of his duties by President Bola Tinubu following the inability of the country’s refineries to function after consuming billions of naira in allocations.
Meanwhile, the Federal High Court, Abuja Division, has ordered the temporary freezing of four bank accounts allegedly linked to Kyari. Justice Emeka Nwite gave the order after an ex parte motion filed by the EFCC.
