The Anambra State Government, led by Governor Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has announced plans to construct a new airport in Ndikelionwu, Orumba North Local Government Area. The project forms part of Soludo’s vision to transform Anambra into a modern smart mega-city and a hub for investment and industrialisation in South-East Nigeria.
The announcement was made during an inspection of the proposed site, led by Engr. Martins Emeka Nwafor, Managing Director of the Chinua Achebe International Cargo Airport and Chairman of the Airport and Aerotropolis Committee.
According to Nwafor, the project will be more than just another airport. The plan is to build an aerotropolis—a city where the airport serves as the central hub, connecting industries, logistics, housing, and commerce. He described the initiative as a “game changer” that will attract local and foreign investments, create job opportunities, and open up new channels for global trade.
The Ndikelionwu community has pledged full support for the development. Their leaders, Hon. Fabian Nwosu and Hon. Ifesinachi Chukwurah Onwurah, thanked the Soludo administration for choosing their community and assured the government of maximum cooperation to ensure timely delivery.
A strong delegation joined the site visit, including Prof. Charles O. Ofoegbu, MD/CEO of the Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company, Retired Air Vice Marshal Ben Chiobi, Senior Special Adviser on Security, and Mr. Chukwudi Ezenwa, architect and founder of Sliding Towers, alongside community leaders and elders.
The Ndikelionwu Airport Project is expected to disperse economic activities, reduce logistical challenges, and signal Anambra’s readiness for large-scale investment, industrial growth, and long-term prosperity
