TRAGEDY!! Dead Body of a Woman Found In Mosque, Police Launch Investigation

Authorities in Osun State have commenced an investigation into the death of a woman found lifeless near a mosque in the Ogo-Oluwa area of Osogbo in the early hours of Monday.

The deceased, identified as Halimat, was discovered by officers of the Osun State Police Command following a distress call from local residents. The body was found at the back of a mosque, with items nearby that have led investigators to suspect a case of suicide.

Speaking to reporters, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed that officers responded swiftly to the scene.

“Upon arrival, our operatives recovered the remains of a woman identified as Halimat at the back of a mosque. A strong chemical odour, suspected to be that of Sniper (a banned pesticide), was perceived at the location,” said Ojelabi.

In addition to the chemical scent, a handwritten note, believed to be a suicide note, was recovered at the scene. Police noted that there were no visible signs of violence or physical assault on the body, further supporting the theory of suicide by poisoning.

“Preliminary investigations suggest she may have taken her own life. However, a comprehensive autopsy and forensic analysis will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death,” the police spokesperson added.

A relative of the deceased has since been located and is reportedly cooperating with law enforcement officers, providing information that may shed more light on the circumstances leading to her death.

SP Ojelabi assured the public that a full investigation is underway, urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.

The case has sparked renewed discussions around mental health awareness and access to harmful substances like Sniper, which remains widely used despite restrictions.
