In a fierce 40-minute gun duel that lit up the quiet night, a Police-led Joint Security Team from the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Aguata, engaged a group of heavily armed hoodlums in Amaokpala, Anambra State—rescuing a kidnapped young woman, neutralizing one suspect, and recovering a cache of arms and incriminating materials.
The operatives were on a routine night visibility patrol when they came under sudden gunfire from the criminals, believed to be a kidnapping gang terrorizing the area. Without hesitation, the security personnel responded with precision and bravery, sparking an intense gun battle that echoed through the community.
By the end of the operation, the officers had rescued a 26-year-old female hostage, taken down one of the armed assailants, and recovered several dangerous and suspicious items including:
- One pump-action gun
- 11 live cartridges
- A Toyota Camry (Ash-coloured), Reg. No: Lagos-EPE-208-FK
- One police belt
- One carton of Chelsea alcoholic sachets
- One Zenith Bank ATM card
- One axe
- One small Tecno mobile phone
- One packet of cigarettes
- Assorted charms
- ₦2,700 cash
The deceased suspect, who sustained gunshot wounds during the exchange, was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead. His body has been deposited in the mortuary for preservation and possible identification.
The rescued victim, visibly shaken but alive, was given immediate medical attention and is currently under care pending her safe reunion with her family.
Speaking on the operation, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD, applauded the professionalism and courage of the operatives. He emphasized that the State Command remains resolute in smoking out criminals from every corner of the state.
“This operation is yet another testimony to our commitment to safeguarding lives and making Anambra a hostile ground for criminal elements. We will not rest,” CP Orutugu vowed.
The Police Command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate by providing timely, credible information that can help security agencies stamp out the menace of kidnapping and violent crimes across the state.
The battle in Amaokpala may be over, but the war against crime continues—loud, focused, and unrelenting.
