Happening Now!! State Assembly Suspends Four Members!

The Benue State House of Assembly on Friday suspended four of its members over an alleged plot to impeach the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Hyacinth Dajoh.

The affected lawmakers are Hon. Alfred Aondoaver (Makurdi North), Hon. Shimawua Emmanuel (Vandeikya II), Hon. Cyril Ikong (Oju II), and Hon. Abu Umoru James (Apa).

According to information gathered, the suspended members were accused of holding a clandestine meeting at the Government House in a bid to remove the Speaker.

Moving the motion for their suspension, the Majority Leader, Hon. Saater Tiseer, said the lawmakers’ action came barely three days after the Assembly unanimously passed a vote of confidence in both the Speaker and the Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia.

He said, “On Wednesday, 20 August 2025, the House in the spirit of unity passed a vote of confidence in the House leadership and the Governor of Benue State. Concerned that barely three days after the House adopted resolutions on this matter, Hon. Alfred Aondoaver and three others went behind to mobilise other members to cause chaos in the House.”

The motion, which was adopted during plenary presided over by the Speaker, led to the suspension of the four members for six months.

Meanwhile, the Assembly also confirmed four out of the eight commissioner-nominees forwarded to it by the governor.
