Nigeria has approved the establishment of its first female-only university, Tazkiyah University, a pioneering institution founded by Professor Ibrahim Maqari, Chief Imam of the National Mosque, Abuja.
The university, located in Zaria, Kaduna State, is designed exclusively for women and may also employ an all-female academic staff, making it the first of its kind in the country.
According to Professor Maqari, profits generated from the institution will be channeled into a special fund to support orphans, underscoring its commitment to social responsibility alongside education.
Tazkiyah University is among the nine new private universities recently accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC). The institution also has plans to move its permanent site to Kaduna city in the future.
The establishment of the university is being hailed as a milestone for women’s education in Nigeria, offering new opportunities for female students to pursue higher learning in an environment tailored to their needs.
