HAPPENING NOW!! Many Injured As Government-Sponsored Hoodlums Allegedly Attack El-Rufai’s ADC Coalition Meeting In Kaduna, Many Vehicles Damaged [VIDEO]

There was tension in Kaduna on Saturday as suspected government-sponsored thugs violently attacked the Transitional Leadership meeting of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which was being held at the Conference Hall of NUT Endwell, Magadishu Layout, in the state capital. The gathering, which reportedly had the full backing of the immediate past Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, ended in chaos as hoodlums invaded the venue, leaving many people injured and property worth millions of naira destroyed.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers stormed the hall in their numbers, wielding dangerous weapons, and descended on participants, disrupting the meeting in full view of security operatives. Several persons sustained serious injuries while others scampered for safety in a bid to escape the violence. The vehicles of attendees, including that of Malam El-Rufai himself, were not spared as thugs smashed windscreens and vandalised cars parked within the premises. The windows of the conference hall were equally destroyed, turning what was meant to be a peaceful political meeting into a bloody confrontation.

What shocked many was that the attack happened in the presence of armed policemen who had earlier been deployed to prevent the event from holding. Reports from insiders revealed that prior to the meeting, the state government had allegedly mounted pressure on various event centres across Kaduna, forcing them to cancel bookings made by the opposition coalition. When the organisers eventually secured the NUT Endwell Hall, the government was said to have moved a step further by mobilising hoodlums through one Hon. Babaji, who serves as Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties, to unleash mayhem and halt the proceedings.

Political observers see the incident as a dangerous escalation of the brewing rivalry between El-Rufai and his successor, Governor Uba Sani. Both men, once close allies, have reportedly fallen out over the direction of governance in Kaduna State and the future of political structures ahead of the 2027 general elections. Analysts warn that the violent disruption of the ADC and SDP coalition meeting signals a descent into intolerance and political brigandage that could destabilise the state if not urgently addressed.

Photographs and video footage obtained from the scene show bloodied participants, shattered car windscreens, and broken hall windows, painting a grim picture of the orchestrated assault. Many stakeholders have condemned the attack, insisting that democracy thrives only when opposition voices are allowed to express themselves freely without intimidation or violence. Calls are now mounting for an independent investigation into the incident, with demands that those behind the mobilisation of the thugs be brought to justice to avert a repeat of such attacks in the state.

The development has once again raised concerns about the shrinking democratic space in Nigeria, where opposition activities are often met with brute force and suppression. For many in Kaduna, the events of Saturday stand as a dark reminder of the urgent need to safeguard political freedom, ensure fairness in the contestation of ideas, and hold those in authority accountable for actions that undermine peace and democracy.
