Enugu Lawmaker Vindicated as Council Chairman Revokes Road Contract Over Poor Delivery

...After Being Supended For Raising Red Flags and Demanding Accountability Over Same Contract

Udenu, Enugu State | August 7, 2025 – The Executive Chairman of Udenu Local Government Area, Hon. Aka Eze Aka, has revoked the contract for the construction of the Ukwu Akpu–Obollo Afor Market Link Road over concerns of substandard delivery and failure to meet expectations.

The decision was made during an inspection of ongoing infrastructural projects in the area on August 6, 2025. Hon. Aka expressed deep dissatisfaction with the quality and pace of work, stating:
“The work done here is far below the expectations of the Council and the people. There is no room for mediocrity in our development agenda.”
He announced that the contract would be re-awarded to a more competent firm capable of delivering quality results on time.

The Chairman revealed that the project, initially slated for early completion, suffered from delays and failed basic technical tests. However, he praised the contractor handling the Ag’ag’ Roundabout reconstruction for timely and quality work, describing it as a model for urban development in Udenu.

In response to the revocation, a statement by Engr. Chekwube Tony Asogwa, Special Assistant to former Udenu Legislative Council Leader, Rt. Hon. Dr. Nnamdi Odo, welcomed the Chairman’s action but described it as proof of deeper systemic issues in the Council. The statement argued that Dr. Odo had earlier raised red flags over the same contract but was suspended for demanding accountability.

The rejoinder recalled that on February 20, 2025, the House Committee on Works, led by Rt. Hon. Daniel Aroh, had written to the Town Engineer requesting documentation on ongoing projects. However, the executive allegedly blocked oversight efforts and suspended Dr. Odo for six months.

The statement questioned the true specifications and cost of the revoked road project and demanded that the Council clarify whether the road was 600 meters or 2 kilometers. It also called for Dr. Odo’s reinstatement and compensation for what it described as an unlawful suspension.

“While we commend the Chairman for finally acting to save face, we ask: what value has the impeachment and suspension of the Leader added to his administration?” the statement read. “Obollo Afor ward was denied representation for six months due to petty politics, which does not serve public interest.”

As public attention turns to transparency and accountability, many observers believe this development vindicates Dr. Odo and signals a possible turning point in governance and project execution in Udenu Local Government Area.
