The Benue State House of Assembly on Thursday rejected two of the eight commissioner-nominees submitted by Governor Hyacinth Alia for screening and confirmation.
Those rejected were Associate Professor of Law, Yangien Ornguga, and Mr. James Dwen.
During the screening, Ornguga, a lecturer at Benue State University, Makurdi, came under intense scrutiny following the submission of four petitions by some of his students who accused him of victimisation.
In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Mr. Tersoo Zamber, the Assembly confirmed six other nominees after the exercise. They include Hon. Theresa Odachi Ikwue, Dr. Benjamin Ashaver, Dr. Adamu Margaret Ijaguwa, Dr. Peter Oboh Egbodo, Denis Iyaighgba, and Dr. Paul Ejeh Ogwuche.
The House resolved that the governor should forward replacements for the two rejected nominees for consideration.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Hyacinth Dajoh, commended the lawmakers for conducting what he described as a thorough and transparent screening exercise. He further urged the confirmed commissioners to serve the people of Benue State with integrity, accountability, and commitment.
