The Nigerian entertainment industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of popular Yoruba Nollywood actress, Omotola Odunsi.
Naija News confirmed that her passing was announced on Friday, August 1, 2025, by her colleague, actress Bakare Zainab, via a somber social media post. Although the cause of death has not been disclosed, the news has sent shockwaves across Nollywood and among her fans.
Zainab shared a brief but emotional tribute, writing, “Goodnight. Omotola, rest well.”
Similarly, Ashabi, the babymama of controversial singer Portable, also expressed her grief in an Instagram post, recalling her last encounter with Omotola.
“Omoh dis one shock me oooo, Aunty Tola. You’re one of the best actors I’m rooting for. Saw you earlier this year when I was shooting Deputy and we promised to feature each other in our next project, but now u laboured and didn’t wait to reap what life sef," she wrote with heartbreak.
"I remember nights you would chat with me to give hope and advice. Most of your wishes we talked about didn’t even come true. GOD, we can’t question you oooo… death is deep.”
Omotola Odunsi was widely recognized for her vibrant presence on screen and had starred in several Yoruba films, including the fan-favourite Lisabi where she featured alongside actor Lateef Adedimeji. Her death marks a significant loss to the Nollywood community, especially among her peers in the Yoruba film industry.
In related news, popular Nollywood actress Destiny Etiko also mourned the tragic death of fish entrepreneur Ifesinachi Onyekere, popularly known as Fish Magnet, who was reportedly abducted and shot in Anambra State. Etiko called for improved national security and described the news as deeply painful.
