The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a strong call for the resignation of Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, citing his inability to tackle the escalating insecurity in the state.
The demand was made by Alhaji Kabiru Garba, the ADC Chairman in Zamfara, during the party’s “Hand Shake Day” event held on Monday at Maryam Hall, Gusau, the state capital.
Garba decried the continued spate of bandit attacks across communities, accusing Governor Lawal of failing in his constitutional duty to protect lives and property.
“It is high time the Governor provided a lasting solution to the insecurity bedeviling the state. Otherwise, he should resign,” Garba stated.
The ADC leader also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take immediate action and address the deteriorating security situation, not just in Zamfara but across Nigeria.
In a controversial suggestion, he advised the state government to consider negotiating with bandits as a means to restore peace, saying:
“We condemn the incessant attacks on our people and urge the government to take decisive steps. Let them talk to the bandits if that’s what will bring peace.”
Garba noted that many residents have lost faith in the current administration and are now turning to the ADC as a credible alternative. He revealed that the party had registered over 75,000 new members in Zamfara alone, with projections to reach 100,000 members before the 2027 general elections.
“We have registered no fewer than 75,000 new members. The people of Zamfara have seen a brighter future in ADC. God willing, we are ready to rescue the state and Nigeria at large come 2027,” he declared.
The event marked a significant moment for the ADC in Zamfara, showcasing its growing grassroots support amid deepening political dissatisfaction.
