BREAKING!! NNPC Increases Petrol Pump Price Amid Hardship (See New Amount Per Litre)

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has announced a fresh hike in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, sparking fresh concern among citizens and commuters across the country.

As of Monday, August 4, 2025, petrol prices at several NNPC retail outlets saw significant increases, with filling stations in Lagos now dispensing the product at ₦915 per litre, up from the previous ₦865, while stations in Abuja have raised their price to ₦955 per litre, compared to the earlier ₦890.

In Lagos, the Abule Ado branch of NNPC adjusted its rate to reflect the ₦915 price, while two outlets along Ago Palace Way in Okota also implemented the new pricing. In the Federal Capital Territory, motorists along the Kubwa Expressway now pay ₦955 per litre.

The hike comes despite a recent reduction in ex-depot prices by the Dangote Refinery, which had lowered its rate to ₦820 per litre, following an earlier drop to ₦840. However, the price relief expected from that move has not reflected in retail pump prices, particularly at NNPC stations.

Meanwhile, according to the National Bureau of Statistics, residents in Jigawa, Ondo, and Lagos states paid the highest average petrol prices in the month of June. On the other hand, Yobe, Kogi, and Imo recorded the lowest prices, with averages slightly below ₦990 per litre.

The latest increase by NNPC has stirred renewed debate about the country’s deregulated downstream sector and its impact on the cost of living, especially at a time when inflation and transportation costs continue to rise nationwide.
