Nafisa Abdullah, a 17-year-old student from Yobe State, Nigeria, has made history by emerging as the world’s best in English Language at the 2025 TeenEagle English Language Skills Competition held in London, United Kingdom.
Representing Nigeria through the Nigerian Tulip International College, Yobe, Nafisa outshone over 20,000 participants from 69 countries in the fiercely contested global final. Her victory has been described as a remarkable achievement, especially considering the intense competition from students in countries where English is the native language.
Reacting to the news, a family member, Malam Hassan Salihu, hailed Nafisa’s success as a moment of immense pride for the family, Yobe State, and the entire country. He credited Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration for its unwavering commitment to education, which he said laid the foundation for such a historic feat.
“Our daughter’s global success wouldn’t have been possible without Governor Buni’s extraordinary support for education in the state,” Salihu said. He also praised the dedication of Nafisa’s teachers and school management for nurturing her talent and preparing her for the international stage.
The TeenEagle competition is one of the world’s largest English proficiency contests, designed to evaluate students’ skills in grammar, reading comprehension, and communication through rigorous written and oral tests.
