Breaking News!! Enugu Air Begins Flights to Owerri, Imo State

Enugu Air, the newly launched state-owned airline of Enugu State, has expanded its operations with the commencement of flights to Owerri, the Imo State capital.

The development, which marks a major milestone in Governor Peter Mbah’s vision to make Enugu a central aviation hub in the South-East, was confirmed today at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, where the airline flagged off the maiden Enugu–Owerri route.

Governor Mbah described the expansion as a strategic step in deepening regional integration, boosting commerce, tourism, and cultural exchange across the South-East. He reiterated that Enugu Air is not only a domestic carrier but part of a broader plan to connect Nigeria with the rest of the world.

“Our mission is clear — Enugu Air is designed to bring our people closer, stimulate economic growth, and offer simpler, more dignified access to home and business opportunities. With this new connection to Owerri, we are building stronger regional ties and laying the foundation for international reach,” the Governor stated.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, hailed the addition of Owerri to Enugu Air’s destinations as proof of the airline’s growth potential and alignment with the Federal Government’s vision of strengthening indigenous airlines. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to providing regulatory and technical support for the venture.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), which had earlier approved Enugu Air’s domestic operations under its partnership with XEJET, confirmed that the new route fully meets operational and safety standards.

The Owerri flight is expected to enhance connectivity within the South-East corridor, creating new opportunities for businesses, easing travel for residents, and serving as a vital link for the diaspora community returning home.

With its fleet of Embraer aircraft, Enugu Air currently operates on the Enugu–Abuja–Lagos golden triangle and has now added Owerri as part of its early expansion strategy. More regional and international routes are expected to follow in the coming months.
