In a historic move, Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has reportedly ordered 200 of his truck drivers to return to training centres to master proper driving skills, following mounting concerns over road safety.
The development comes after strong advocacy from social commentator VDM, who had raised alarm over the increasing rate of accidents allegedly caused by careless driving by truck drivers associated with the Dangote Group.
VDM was quoted as saying: “Enough is enough! My people will not keep dying because of the carelessness of these drivers.” His bold call, which many initially thought would be silenced or ignored, has now attracted a direct response from Dangote himself.
Confirming the move, popular Facebook page Wise Target Trendz reported:
“For the first time in history, Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote has ordered 200 of his truck drivers to return to training centers and master proper driving skills — all thanks to VDM.”
The page further emphasized that the same activist often criticized and labelled a “Manipulator” and “Whitewasher” is now being recognized as the voice behind this significant change.
The report added: “God bless you VDM. Sometimes, one fearless voice can save millions.”
This decision is being lauded by many Nigerians as a step in the right direction towards improving road safety and reducing avoidable accidents involving heavy-duty vehicles.
