In a major political development ahead of the 2027 general elections, Dr. Salihu Mohammed Lukman, the former Deputy National Chairman (North) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and immediate past Director-General of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), has officially resigned his membership from the APC.
Dr. Lukman announced his decision on Tuesday, stating that the current trajectory of the APC no longer aligns with his political values and vision for Nigeria’s future. He cited the party’s deviation from internal democracy, growing authoritarianism, and exclusionary practices as reasons for his departure.
In a bold move, the prominent political strategist and policy advocate has now declared for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, marking what political observers are calling a significant defection that could reshape alliances ahead of the next electoral cycle.
“The APC has become a shadow of the progressive platform we envisioned at its founding. I can no longer, in good conscience, continue as a member. I believe in a more inclusive, democratic, and people-centered political arrangement — one which the ADC coalition now offers,” Lukman said in his statement.
The former PGF DG is known for his critical stance on party leadership and governance issues within the APC, often calling for internal reforms and respect for democratic principles. His move to the ADC coalition is expected to stir further conversations around the realignment of political forces in northern Nigeria and beyond.
