Former President Goodluck Jonathan has dismissed reports suggesting that he has withdrawn from the 2027 presidential race.
The clarification came after a publication claimed that Jonathan had stepped aside to avoid disrupting political unity in the South.
Reacting to the report, Jonathan’s cousin, Azibaola Robert, described the story as false, stressing that the former president has not at any time said he would not participate in the election.
Although Jonathan has not officially declared his ambition, there are strong indications that he has been holding nationwide consultations. His camp maintained that no aide has been authorised to speak on his behalf regarding the election, dismissing the sources of the earlier report as fabricated.
Robert further explained that Jonathan has not ruled himself out of the race, adding that those discouraging him from contesting are doing so for their own interests. He assured that Jonathan will make his position known at the appropriate time.
