Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has approved a minor but strategic cabinet reshuffle involving two high-profile ministries in a move aimed at reinvigorating governance and boosting service delivery in the state.
According to a statement signed on Monday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ibraheem Musa, the reshuffle sees Sule Shuaibu (SAN), the former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, redeployed to head the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs. In his place, Dr. James Kanyip, who formerly led the security ministry, will now serve as the new Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.
Musa explained that the portfolio swap was necessitated by the desire to "re-energise the machinery of government for optimal service delivery" and to take advantage of the unique strengths and experiences of the commissioners involved.
"Governor Uba Sani charged the two top functionaries to approach their new responsibilities with fairness, total commitment and integrity,” the statement read.
The governor expressed confidence in their capabilities, stressing that service delivery remains the cornerstone of his administration. "He wished them God’s guidance and protection," the statement added.
Though described as a minor reshuffle, political observers note that the move affects two of the most sensitive ministries in Kaduna State — Justice and Internal Security — both of which are critical to the ongoing reforms and security operations in the state.
Sule Shuaibu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, is highly respected for his legal acumen and previously led major reforms in the Kaduna State judiciary. His reassignment to the Ministry of Internal Security is seen as strategic, especially given the recent surge in rural banditry and inter-communal tensions across parts of the state.
Dr. James Kanyip, a legal scholar and former Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, is also widely regarded for his work in community conflict resolution and security policy. His appointment as Attorney General is expected to bring academic depth and administrative experience to the state’s justice sector.
The swap has been widely interpreted as part of Governor Uba Sani’s broader agenda to consolidate gains in both the justice and security sectors and to ensure experienced hands are steering key ministries amid ongoing challenges.
