President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday signed into law a bill establishing the Federal University of Agriculture, Ako-Nike, Enugu State.
The bill, which was sponsored by Professor Paul Nnamchi, the member representing Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, aims to promote innovation and research in agriculture while expanding access to tertiary education in Nigeria’s South East region.
The university, once operational, is expected to complement existing institutions of higher learning and strengthen federal presence in the state.
The bill’s passage had earlier received widespread support in both chambers of the National Assembly and was applauded by stakeholders across the education and agricultural sectors.
With this presidential assent, the Federal Ministry of Education and other relevant agencies are expected to begin the implementation process.
