BREAKING: Bulldozers Set Ablaze Over Alleged Land-Grabbing

Tension gripped parts of Port Harcourt on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, following a violent clash over a disputed parcel of land that led to the burning of bulldozers along Airport Road in Rumuosi Town, Rivers State.

Eyewitnesses disclosed that suspected youths, believed to be from the host community, stormed the disputed site where construction equipment had been deployed and allegedly set the bulldozers ablaze in protest against what they described as unlawful encroachment and land-grabbing activities.

The incident, which occurred in broad daylight, sparked panic among residents and commuters plying the busy Airport Road, as thick smoke billowed from the burning machines. Many motorists were forced to divert to alternative routes to avoid being caught up in the unrest.

Though details remain sketchy, sources claimed that the disputed land has been at the center of ownership tussles between members of the Rumuosi community and alleged private developers. Tensions reportedly escalated after attempts to commence earthworks on the property without the consent of some local stakeholders.

Security operatives were said to have been mobilized to the scene to forestall further breakdown of law and order. However, at the time of filing this report, no official statement had been issued by the Rivers State Police Command regarding possible arrests or casualties from the incident.

The development adds to the growing list of violent disputes linked to land-grabbing across parts of Nigeria, with communities and individuals often clashing with private developers and government agencies over ownership rights.

Residents of Rumuosi have appealed to the Rivers State Government to urgently intervene and bring lasting peace to the area to prevent further escalation of hostilities.
