The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced that it will not issue an automatic presidential ticket for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, despite his endorsement by key organs of the party.
The party’s National Organising Secretary, Suleiman Argungu, disclosed this at the APC national secretariat, stressing that other aspirants are free to purchase nomination forms and contest in the primaries.
According to him, the National Working Committee (NWC), state governors, and all six geopolitical zones have already endorsed President Tinubu as the party’s preferred candidate, but the nomination process will remain open.
“It will be the wish of the party, and we, the NWC of the party, have already endorsed President Tinubu as the next presidential candidate of the party. And by extension, other organs have equally done the same thing. Governors in the states have done the same too. It has also been replicated in all six geographical zones of the country. But it does not mean that the door is closed,” Argungu said.
He further stated that the APC will release its timetable in due course, allowing other aspirants to formally obtain and submit their forms.
This development clarifies the party’s position amid growing speculation about whether President Tinubu would be granted an automatic ticket for re-election.
