BREAKING: Peter Heading to PDP to Contest 2027 Presidency

Former Borno State Governor and political heavyweight, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has sparked major political reactions nationwide with a bombshell revelation that Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, is preparing to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to pursue his 2027 presidential ambition.

Sheriff made the disclosure during a live appearance on Channels Television on Monday night, stating:

“As far as this politics is concerned, they (ADC) don’t exist. The information available to me is that any moment from now, Peter Obi will go back to PDP and run as a presidential candidate under PDP.”

This statement comes amid ongoing speculation over the political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Just days ago, Professor Jerry Gana, a founding member of the PDP and former Minister of Information, had revealed that the PDP had opened dialogue with Peter Obi and other key southern leaders as part of its strategic repositioning efforts. Gana emphasized the party’s introspection on its past presidential primaries and its readiness to build consensus ahead of 2027.

Meanwhile, the PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, added fuel to the speculation, describing Obi as a “valuable asset” and stating:

“Peter Obi is our product. We want to get him back, indeed, because he is a very, very great capital for any political party.”

There are also strong indications that the PDP may zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, further aligning with Obi’s base and raising expectations of his return.

Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, came third in the 2023 presidential election, behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. His widespread appeal among youths and urban voters continues to make him a formidable force in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.

As 2027 draws nearer, all eyes will be on Peter Obi’s next move — and whether his possible return to the PDP will reshape the presidential race.
