In a decisive move aimed at restoring order and democratic governance, the Stakeholders’ Council of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Philippines Zone, has announced the appointment of Comrade Ojukwu Leonard M. (OLM) as the new Acting President of the association. This comes on the heels of the official impeachment of former president, Comrade Okoye Christian Chikelue, following a litany of constitutional violations and leadership misconduct.
The announcement was formally communicated through two separate official documents issued by the Stakeholders’ Council. The first, dated June 10, 2025, detailed the grounds for the impeachment of Comrade Chikelue, while the second, dated June 16, 2025, confirmed the elevation of Ojukwu Leonard as Acting President pursuant to Chapter 3, Article 13(c)(i) of the association’s constitution.

OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUÉ FROM THE STAKEHOLDERS’ COUNCIL, NANS PHILIPPINES
Subject: Impeachment Proceedings and Disciplinary Actions Against Comrade Okoye Christian Chikelue
The Stakeholders’ Council of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Philippines Chapter, acting in consonance with the constitutional mandate bestowed upon it as a legitimate and supreme adjudicatory body within the framework of the Association, hereby issues this communiqué concerning the impeachment of Comrade Okoye Christian Chikelue from his official capacity.
This decision, though reached with solemn deliberation and considerable forbearance, has been necessitated by the egregious and persistently recalcitrant actions demonstrated by the aforementioned comrade—acts that flagrantly contravene not only the explicit statutes enshrined in our charter, but also undermine the democratic ethos upon which the Association is predicated.
Grounds for Impeachment:
-
Wilful Non-Appearance Before the Council
Despite multiple formal summonses, Comrade Chikelue has exhibited a studied disregard for the authority of this Council by refusing to appear in person or through a duly authorized representative to respond to grave allegations leveled against his leadership. This dereliction of civic duty constitutes a direct affront to the principle of accountability. -
Persistent Constitutional Violations
His administration has evidenced an entrenched pattern of extreme disregard for the charter, constitutional articles, and procedural mandates of the Association. These deviations have not merely been administrative missteps, but fundamental breaches that corrode the very pillars of legitimacy and governance. -
Institutional Disrespect
In a most alarming display of institutional insubordination, he unilaterally undermined the roles and sanctity of other constitutionally recognized organs of NANS, particularly the Stakeholders’ Council, which remains the supreme supervisory entity. -
Failure to Render Accounts
He persistently refused to provide a transparent and comprehensive breakdown of his official engagements and fiscal responsibilities covering the duration of his tenure (2023–2024), particularly in the domains of finance, media engagement, and student welfare. His obstruction of any independent financial audit raises significant concerns over misappropriation and administrative opacity. -
Unconstitutional Appointments
He arbitrarily appointed and swore in individuals, including an illegitimate Stakeholders’ Council Chairman, without due constitutional process or ratification, constituting a blatant usurpation of democratic procedure. -
Tyrannical Suppression of Dissent
His removal of a student from an official platform for expressing dissent represents a despotic abuse of power and a violation of the individual's right to free speech—an inalienable principle of our democratic association. -
Fomentation of Factionalism
He was found culpable of deliberately engineering a schism within the Association by cultivating and legitimizing a parallel structure, thereby threatening the unity, coherence, and forward trajectory of NANS Philippines.
Council’s Constitutional Mandate and Resolution:
In accordance with the immutable provisions of the NANS Philippines Constitution, and invoking its exclusive jurisdiction to interpret constitutional disputes and infractions, the Stakeholders’ Council affirms its authority to discipline, suspend, or expel any official found to have acted in contravention of its binding laws.
Accordingly, Comrade Okoye Christian Chikelue is hereby impeached from his position, pending a thorough investigation by a duly constituted Disciplinary Committee. The committee shall undertake an exhaustive inquiry into the enumerated allegations and determine appropriate sanctions.
Let it be known that the sanctity of democratic leadership within NANS cannot be compromised by autocracy or impunity. The Council reaffirms its unwavering commitment to justice, transparency, and the collective dignity of all Nigerian students in the Philippines.
