Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the recent deadly attack on farm settlements in Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State, which left several residents feared dead and many displaced.
The suspects, identified as Matthew Ebeh, 26, and a yet-to-be-named woman, were apprehended by police operatives in Isi-Uzo following credible intelligence. Ebeh is alleged to have led the militant herders into the community, while the female suspect reportedly acted as a guide and informant, leaking security movement and coordinating the attackers’ entry into the area.
According to eyewitnesses, one of the locals managed to escape during the attack and raised an alarm, leading to the eventual arrest of Ebeh and his accomplice. Recovered evidence and early confessions indicate their active involvement in plotting and aiding the invasion.
Reacting to the development, the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, condemned the incident in strong terms and vowed that no crime in Enugu State would go unpunished. He made this statement while receiving the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone 13, AIG Abayomi Oladipo, at the Lion Building, Government House, Enugu, on Wednesday.
Governor Mbah emphasized that, despite this isolated tragedy, Enugu remains one of the safest states in Nigeria, and that his administration has put in place robust, technology-driven security infrastructure to prevent and respond swiftly to any threat.
“Enugu is unarguably among the safest states in the country,” the governor stated. “We have invested massively in security infrastructure—AI-enabled surveillance cameras, a Command and Control Centre, a dedicated Distress Response Squad with over 150 vehicles—all to ensure that crimes are not only prevented but also thoroughly investigated and prosecuted.”
He blamed peddlers of falsehood for attempting to exaggerate the security situation in the state through manipulated social media narratives, including the recycling of old or unrelated videos and incidents from other locations.
“I have seen images and videos recently that did not originate from Enugu but were being circulated as though they did. If we remove those fake and misleading reports, the truth is that Enugu remains secure and peaceful,” Mbah said.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to continue working with security agencies to safeguard every community in the state, especially border areas like Eha-Amufu.
AIG Abayomi Oladipo, who was on a familiarization visit to the state, commended Governor Mbah for the significant improvements in security and infrastructure, assuring that the police would strengthen collaboration to maintain peace and order across the zone.
Meanwhile, the recent UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) travel advisory published on June 13, 2025, excluded Enugu from its list of 27 Nigerian states under travel warning, further reinforcing the governor’s position that the state remains a safe haven for residents and visitors alike.
Governor Mbah concluded by assuring the people of Isi-Uzo and beyond that his government would not relent in its mission to protect lives and property, ensure justice for victims, and prevent future occurrences.
