Enugu: Jubilation As LGA Equips Teachers with Digital Skills Ahead of Smart School CBT Test

Enugu North Local Government Area, in partnership with the Enugu State Government, has kickstarted a 4-day digital literacy training exercise for verified teachers who have expressed interest in teaching at the newly established smart schools across the 13 political wards of the council.

According to reports, the training is designed to prepare these teachers for the upcoming computer-based qualifying tests, which will determine their eligibility for employment in the smart school system, which is an initiative that aligns with the broader vision of Governor Peter Ndubisi Mbah's administration to revolutionize education in Enugu State through experiential learning and technology-driven instruction.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the training, the council chairman, Dr. Ibenaku Harford Onoh, stated that the exercise is a critical step toward ensuring that teachers in the council are equipped with the basic digital competencies required to participate in the recruitment process and contribute meaningfully to the transformation of the education sector.

He stated that the training is in anticipation of the September 2025 launch of the smart school programme and is meant to give participants a head start in understanding the digital tools and platforms essential for modern teaching.

According to him, "We are not just preparing teachers, we are preparing 21st-century educators who can inspire innovation and critical thinking in the classroom."

"This digital literacy program will serve as the backbone of effective teaching and learning in the smart school system."

"The goal is to create confident and competent educators who can adapt to the evolving demands of education in the digital age."

"We are investing in people who will shape the minds of tomorrow’s leaders."

Dr. Onoh also applauded Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for initiating the visionary project, calling it "a transformative move that will reshape the future of education in our state."

He also appreciated the efforts of the Special Adviser to the Governor on experiential learning, Dr. Mrs. Chinyere Onyishi, in supporting the initiative, describing her contributions as pivotal in laying the groundwork for a future-ready education system.

Dr. Onoh further urged participants to take full advantage of the training, stressing that the knowledge gained would not only qualify them to teach in the smart schools but would also reposition them as drivers of change within their communities.

He also reaffirmed the council’s full support for the state government’s policies aimed at elevating the quality of education and pledged continued collaboration to achieve sustainable educational development in Enugu North local Government Area .
