A major controversy has erupted within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State following calls for Governor Caleb Mutfwang of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the APC.
The North-Central All Progressives Congress Forum, led by Saleh Zazzaga, expressed support for Governor Mutfwang's performance in office and urged him to defect to the APC. Zazzaga’s group also endorsed Mutfwang for a second term, praising his alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s policies. According to Zazzaga, the forum reached this decision during an expanded stakeholders’ meeting held on Friday night. The group also adopted the governor’s Green Cap Movement ahead of the 2027 governorship election and reaffirmed its support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Zazzaga stated, “Although Mutfwang belongs to the PDP, we believe he is performing well and must be supported to succeed. Similarly, we are endorsing our President, Bola Tinubu, for 2027 because of his exceptional performance.”
However, the APC Like Minds Political Forum has condemned the move, labeling Zazzaga’s actions as “reckless, malicious, and self-serving.” In a counter statement released by Habibu Musa Sati, the group alleged that Zazzaga did not vote for the APC in the last general election and has been involved in controversies that question his integrity and loyalty.
The Like Minds Forum commended the Plateau APC leadership, led by Rufus Bature, for setting up a committee to investigate Zazzaga’s actions and called for disciplinary measures. They passed a vote of confidence in Senator Simon Lalong and the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, citing their purposeful leadership and reforms.
The group accused Zazzaga of exploiting the APC platform to gain attention and satisfy undisclosed interests.
