Panic erupted at the popular Okro Market in Oyigbo, Rivers State, after a woman was apprehended for allegedly concealing a baby inside a bag.
The disturbing incident, which was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), shows a crowd of outraged marketgoers surrounding the woman. According to eyewitnesses, she aroused suspicion due to her unusual behavior, prompting vendors and shoppers to confront her. Upon inspection of her bag, they were shocked to discover a baby hidden inside.
The motive behind her action remains unclear, and it is yet to be confirmed whether the baby was kidnapped or if she is the child’s biological mother.
While some in the crowd called for swift police intervention, others expressed skepticism about the effectiveness of law enforcement, with one user commenting, “Hand them over to the police and in the next one hour you will see them back on the street after paying 10k each.”
Social media reactions have been filled with shock and outrage. One user wrote, “A wicked world we live in!” while another quoted scripture, stating, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?”
Authorities have not released an official statement on the matter as of press time.
