U.S. Embassy In Abuja and Lagos to Shutdown

The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Monday, May 26, 2025, in observance of Memorial Day, a federal holiday in the United States.

The closure was announced by the U.S. Mission in Nigeria via its official X (formerly Twitter) account. According to the statement, Memorial Day is “set aside to honour American military personnel who died while serving their country.”

Memorial Day, observed annually on the last Monday of May, is a solemn occasion in the United States, typically marked by flag displays, remembrance ceremonies, and tributes to fallen servicemen and women across the nation.

The embassy confirmed that all routine consular services at both the Abuja and Lagos offices will be suspended on Monday. However, normal operations are expected to resume on Tuesday, May 27.

Individuals with urgent consular needs have been advised to visit the official U.S. Mission website for emergency contact information.
