𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆! Tinubu Appoints Enugu Former Speaker to UNN Governing Council

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Rt. Hon. Barr. Eugene Odo, former Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, into the Governing Council of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).

The announcement was made in a statement released by the Presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, outlining new appointments to the governing councils of three federal universities—University of Abuja (UNIABUJA), University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka.

Rt. Hon. Eugene Odo represents the South-East geopolitical zone in the newly constituted UNN council. He is joined by Muhammad Inuwa Tahir, mni from the North-West.

The move is part of President Tinubu’s broader efforts to strengthen governance structures in federal universities by appointing individuals with proven legislative, academic, and administrative credentials.

Other appointees include:

UNIABUJA Governing Council:

  • Prof. Rosemary Iriowen Egonmwan – South-South
  • Dr. Adedeji Adefuye – South-West
  • Prof. Sarki Abba Abdulkadir – North-West
  • Prof. Aminu Mohammed Dukku – North-East

NAU Awka Governing Council:

The appointments come after the earlier dissolution of the UNIABUJA Governing Council and the removal of its Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Aisha Maikudi, in February 2024.

These changes reflect the administration’s ongoing commitment to repositioning Nigeria’s education sector through accountable and regionally inclusive leadership.
