Taylor Swift Buys Back Rights to All Her Old Music

Pop icon Taylor Swift has successfully regained ownership of her entire music catalogue, marking a triumphant end to a years-long battle with record executives over the rights to her early work.

In a heartfelt announcement on her official website on Friday, Swift declared, “All of the music I’ve ever made… now belongs… to me.” The singer has long been vocal about her fight for artistic ownership, which began in 2019 after her former label sold the rights to her first six albums without her consent.

“To say this is my greatest dream come true is actually an understatement,” Swift wrote in a letter addressed to fans. “To my fans, you know how important this has been to me — so much so that I meticulously re-recorded and released four of my albums, branding them as Taylor’s Version.”

Among the re-recorded albums are Taylor Swift and the award-winning Reputation, both of which she now owns outright. Swift repurchased the masters from Shamrock Capital, a Los Angeles-based investment firm, for an undisclosed amount.

The acquisition comes on the heels of her record-shattering Eras Tour, which spanned nearly two years and grossed an estimated $2 billion. The global tour, featuring 149 shows that often lasted over three hours, attracted millions of fans and helped cement her financial and cultural dominance.

Swift expressed gratitude for the broader industry conversation sparked by her ownership saga, stating she was “heartened by the conversations this saga has reignited within my industry.”

Her determination and business savvy have now not only restored control over her creative legacy but also reshaped the conversation about artists’ rights in the modern music era.
