The Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Edo State Governor, Bugie Okhuemoi, has addressed pressing security concerns in the state, including cult violence, kidnappings, and banditry, during a live appearance on Dialogue, a current affairs programme on KUFM 92.7 Benin, aired on Wednesday, May 1st, 2025.
Speaking candidly on the broadcast, Okhuemoi reaffirmed the government's commitment to restoring peace and stability across troubled parts of Edo State. He noted that the recent surge in cult-related violence has been met with swift and coordinated responses by security agencies in partnership with local communities.
“Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration will not tolerate any form of lawlessness. We are deploying both intelligence and force to restore normalcy,” Okhuemoi stated.
On the issue of kidnappings, the media aide revealed that the government has intensified efforts in intelligence gathering and inter-agency coordination, leading to the rescue of several victims and the arrest of suspects in recent weeks.
Regarding the demolition of properties, Okhuemoi clarified that structures identified as criminal hideouts or those built in violation of urban development laws are being taken down in line with due process. He emphasized that such actions are necessary to sanitize the state and eliminate criminal enclaves.
Touching on banditry, Okhuemoi acknowledged the challenges but assured listeners that government efforts are yielding results. He cited the recent deployment of special tactical units to rural and boundary communities as part of a broader strategy to reclaim affected territories.
He concluded by urging residents to support security agencies through information sharing, and to remain vigilant, assuring that the Edo State Government remains resolute in its duty to protect lives and property.
