A grandmother has been arrested in Benin City, Edo State, for allegedly burning the hands of her young granddaughter as punishment for eating a pack of Indomie noodles without permission.
According to eyewitnesses, the child had consumed the noodles due to hunger, an act which infuriated her guardian. In a disturbing response, the grandmother reportedly placed the child’s hands directly on a gas stove, inflicting severe burns.
The incident was brought to the attention of the Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs by a concerned resident. Upon investigation, the Ministry intervened immediately, arresting the suspect and facilitating the child’s transfer to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) for urgent medical care.
The shocking case has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many users condemning the act as barbaric and calling for the strictest punishment under child protection laws.
Authorities have assured the public that the matter is being handled with utmost seriousness, and the suspect will be prosecuted accordingly.
