The Enugu State Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Hon. Ada Chukwu in a company of The Senior Special Assistant to The Governor on Market Liaison, Hon. Dr. Chinedu Mbah carried out an on-the-spot assessment of the Orie Orba International Market in Udenu Local Government Area, following reports of congestion and structural challenges affecting traders and customers.
The visit was conducted in response to the directive of His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubisi Mbah, Governor of Enugu State, who has ordered the remodeling and revitalization of major markets across the state to align with global standards.
During the visit, the commissioner interacted with market leaders, traders, and other stakeholders to gain firsthand information about the issues causing congestion, including poor layout planning, inadequate access roads, and disorganized stall allocations.
Hon. Chukwu reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to transforming market infrastructure across the state, stating that the Peter Mbah administration is determined to create a safe, accessible, and business-friendly environment for all traders and investors.
“The Governor is passionate about the growth of commerce in Enugu State. This visit is part of our broader mission to restructure and modernize our markets to reflect international best practices,” she said.
In his remarks, Hon. Dr. Chinedu Mbah emphasized the importance of sustained engagement with market stakeholders and assured that solutions will be community-driven and inclusive. He added that proper documentation, spatial reallocation, and infrastructure upgrades would follow the assessment phase.
The visit marks another practical step by the Enugu State Government toward achieving its economic development agenda, with special focus on market modernization, job creation, and enhanced revenue generation.
