A Nigerian man has sparked reactions online after calling GTBank’s customer service to demand an explanation for the arrest of controversial social media personality, VeryDarkMan, also known as VDM.
The man, whose identity remains undisclosed, shared a recording of the call via his X (formerly Twitter) account, just hours after VDM’s arrest in Abuja. The trending post captured his heated exchange with a GTBank representative, in which he accused the bank of complicity in the incident.
“I didn’t call to ask for any service, I called to ask you a question. Why did your bank arrest VeryDarkMan, what did he do?” the man said angrily.
“I’ll come to your bank and close my account. I’m not banking with you again. Someone came to your bank to make a complaint, and your bank in Abuja arrested him for no reason and beat him like a thief.”
According to reports, VeryDarkMan had visited the bank alongside his mother to complain about unauthorized deductions from her account. While CCTV footage later confirmed he had exited the bank before being arrested, widespread outrage ensued, with many Nigerians accusing GTBank of orchestrating his arrest.
Despite the GTBank customer representative’s inability to provide a direct answer during the phone call, the video quickly went viral and ignited heated debates online. Nigerians flooded the comment section with their reactions—some in solidarity with VDM, others skeptical of the public outcry.
Here are some notable reactions:
- @Capless101: “So Gtbank never lose up to 1k customers since yesterday till now. This country is a joke.”
- @BLyod71458: “Bastards!!! I’m blocking my account too.”
- @bigken45: “Mumu use this your strength fight for all the killings going on in this country and fight for better governance.”
- @lekido45: “The bank always sets up people with money with EFCC. I’m sure they even gave out addresses.”
- @NankereJ25141: “Everybody shouting ‘Free VDM’, now you’re calling the bank saying we are coming to protest. Are you ready to face what this evil government will do?”
- @DamarisDoose: “Now y’all see that E-money’s arrest was just a distraction—VDM was the real target all along.”
- @PreshiousChild: “So she’s supposed to know why they arrested him? Nawa… some of you don’t use your brains.”
The video, captioned “I called @gtbank to ask them why they kidnapped VDM and this happened #FreeVDM”, has garnered thousands of views and reignited calls for #FreeVDM on social media platforms.
