JUST IN: True Identity of 89 Northern Youths Traveling From Katsina to Ibeju-Lekki Revealed

The Lagos State Police Command has clarified the circumstances surrounding a viral video showing 89 young men from Katsina State arriving in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

The video, which circulated widely on social media, raised public concern after the men were seen in front of a company named Dano, prompting questions about their identity and intentions.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, officers were swiftly deployed to the scene on May 14, 2025, to investigate the situation.

Upon arrival, police discovered that the men had been recruited to work as labourers at the Dangote Refinery. A contractor affiliated with the refinery confirmed that he personally facilitated their relocation from Katsina for legal employment.

This information was further validated by the Chief Security Officer of the Dangote Refinery, who confirmed the identities of the workers and assured police that they had been duly cleared to access the refinery premises.

Police investigations also revealed that all 89 individuals possessed valid means of identification, including National Identification Numbers (NINs), which were authenticated by security personnel. No illegal items were found in their possession.

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, cautioned the public against spreading unverified or misleading information, emphasizing the need for calm and responsible communication.

He reassured residents that the police remain fully committed to public safety and will continue to respond promptly to any potential security threats.

The viral video had sparked a wave of mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians expressing concern over the size and anonymity of the group, while others defended their right to travel in search of employment, provided no laws were broken.
