The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has shut down numerous churches, hotels, supermarkets, and other business establishments across several areas of Lagos for violating environmental regulations, particularly noise pollution.
On Friday, May 2, LASEPA’s enforcement team conducted an operation in areas including Ogba, Oko Oba, Orile Agege, Dopemu, Abule Egba, Ifako Ijaiye, and Alagbado. The agency sealed off facilities that failed to comply with the state’s environmental standards.
Affected religious centers include Assemblies of God Church, Peculiar God’s Glory International Ministry, and the Celestial Church of Christ. Notable commercial establishments such as Primemart Superstore, Maxx-M Square, King Nico Hotel & Event Center, 10:45 Hotel, C2C Meridian Integrated Hotel, and NextBest Bar were also closed. Even a Globacom telecommunications mast was sealed during the crackdown.
LASEPA stated that the closures were due to excessive noise and other environmental disturbances that had adversely affected nearby residents. The agency emphasized that the action was necessary to maintain peace and protect public health.
The agency urged all religious centers, businesses, and entertainment venues to adhere strictly to environmental laws or risk similar sanctions.
This latest enforcement drive reflects the Lagos government’s commitment to ensuring a safer and more serene environment for all its residents.
