JUST IN: EFCC Labels VeryDarkMan a 'Bandit'

Lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju has alleged that operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) blindfolded, assaulted, and labelled his client, social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, a "bandit" during a controversial arrest in Abuja.

According to a preliminary statement released by Adeyanju’s law firm via social media, the incident occurred on May 2, 2025, shortly after Otse, his mother, and associate Steven Avuara (aka C-Pack) visited GTBank, Garki Area 3, Abuja, to address suspicious deductions from Mrs. Otse’s account.

After exiting the bank, the trio were reportedly ambushed by armed men in black uniforms, beaten, blindfolded, and threatened at gunpoint in full view of Otse’s mother. They were later identified as EFCC operatives from the Commission’s Special Duty Committee (SDC) Unit 4.

While Avuara was briefly allowed legal visitation, Otse allegedly declined to see anyone. The EFCC, however, presented an arrest warrant issued by Magistrate Njideka Iloanya-Duru on allegations of cyberstalking.

Adeyanju’s legal team criticized the EFCC for failing to clarify the charges against Avuara and attempting to interrogate him without legal basis. They called the arrest procedure a violation of constitutional rights and demanded respect for due process.
