Pastor Funke Awolowo, granddaughter of the late Nigerian statesman Chief Obafemi Awolowo, has resigned from her position as a member of the Labour Party Executive Committee in Lagos State.
Until her resignation, she served as the Head of the Mobilisation and Integration Team for the party.
In a statement addressed to the Lagos State Party Chairman, Dayo Ekong, and shared with Vanguard, Pastor Funke cited recent developments within the party that conflicted with her values and made it difficult for her to continue in good conscience.
She expressed deep concern that the integrity of the committee had been compromised, alleging it was now being used for purposes that undermine the core values of public service and damage personal reputations.
“Despite my dedication and sincere service over the years, I can no longer be part of a system where personal interests overshadow true public service,” she stated.
Though stepping down from her official role, Funke reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to contributing to Nigeria’s development through other avenues. She also extended her appreciation to all those who supported her during her tenure.
Her resignation comes just four months after she had publicly urged Labour Party members and supporters to embrace unity for the collective good of the nation.
