The atmosphere at the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, is experiencing a transformative shift under the dynamic leadership of the Rector, Professor Gozie Ogbodo, who has continued to lead with uncommon resolve and integrity. In what many are already describing as a bold and progressive move, the Rector has announced the planned introduction of mid-semester examinations across all degree programmes as part of a broader initiative to promote academic integrity and quality assurance.
Speaking during an interactive session with Management, staff, and lecturers of degree programmes, Professor Ogbodo made it unequivocally clear that his administration will no longer tolerate acts of extortion, sexual harassment, and academic indiscipline, which have historically dented the institution’s reputation. He warned erring staff, particularly lecturers who indulge in such unethical practices to desist or face decisive disciplinary action, including dismissal.
"We are in an era where people want to be paid without working. That mindset must change,” the Rector declared passionately. “This administration is committed to a complete culture and value reorientation. IMT is a brand, and we must protect and elevate that brand at all costs.”
Prof. Ogbodo, who is already making giant strides with his diligent Deputy Rector, Dr. Patrick Ejim, and an effective administrative management team, emphasized that the days of business as usual were over. His vision for what he describes as a “new testament IMT” is one grounded in discipline, hard work, accountability, and innovation.
During the meeting, the Director of Degree Programmes, Dr. Adachukwu Ikeyi, set the tone with a firm reminder to lecturers about their academic responsibilities. She stressed the importance of timely collection, marking, and submission of examination scripts and advised staff involved in project supervision to adopt a proactive approach in sharing and supervising student projects.
On his part, the Director of Academic Planning, Dr. Ifeanyi Ojobor, emphasized the importance of due process. “IMT is a system, and the system runs on rules. Everyone must operate within those boundaries,” he stated, urging his colleagues to remain professional and committed to upholding the institution's standards.
One of the most significant takeaways from the session was the Rector’s announcement that mid-semester examinations will soon become a regular academic feature. This policy, he explained, is aimed at tightening academic processes, tracking students’ performance in real-time, and deterring laxity among both staff and students.
In alignment with these new standards, the Rector also directed that lecture attendance, by both lecturers and students, will now be strictly monitored and enforced.
The series of reforms and disciplinary mechanisms being rolled out signal a renewed era for IMT Enugu, one in which excellence is not merely aspired to, but actively enforced. Under Professor Ogbodo’s leadership, supported by Dr. Ejim and a vibrant team of administrators, IMT is not just being rebranded, it is being reborn.
