HAPPENING NOW! 22 Members of Kano Sports Delegation Returning From National Sports Festival Feared Dead In Fatal Road Accident

Tragedy struck on the return journey of the Kano State sports delegation from the National Sports Festival held in Ogun State, as no fewer than 22 members of the team were feared dead in a ghastly motor accident in Kura Local Government Area of Kano State.

According to reports, the vehicle conveying the team—made up of athletes, journalists, medical personnel, and administrators—was involved in a fatal crash at Dakatsalle Bridge just before reaching Kura town. The accident occurred as the delegation was returning after the successful completion of the festival, where the team had reportedly secured 29 medals.

A survivor of the accident, Ado Salisu Gama, recounted the horrific experience from his hospital bed at the Kura General Hospital. “Twenty-two people have been confirmed dead at Dakatsalle bridge. The driver too is dead. As I speak with you, one other member just died,” he stated, still visibly shaken.

A total of 35 passengers were said to be in the vehicle when the accident happened. While some were confirmed dead on the spot, several others sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical attention.

The devastating incident has cast a dark shadow over what was meant to be a celebratory return for the state’s athletes. More details are expected as authorities continue their investigations and rescue efforts.

The government of Kano State, sports officials, and families of the victims are yet to release formal statements as of the time of this report.
