BREAKING!! Two Governors, States’ Assembly Speakers Summoned To Abuja

The House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions has issued a summons to the Governors of Zamfara and Benue States, as well as the Speakers of their respective State Houses of Assembly, to appear before the committee on Thursday, May 8, 2025.

This development follows a petition filed by a civil rights group, Guardians of Democracy and Rule of Law, urging the House to assume the legislative functions of the two state assemblies due to alleged governance lapses.

According to a statement released on Friday by the committee’s media head, Chooks Oko, the summons was personally signed by the Committee Chairman, Hon. Mike Etaba, who stressed that the parties concerned are already familiar with the issues raised in the petition.

Hon. Etaba reiterated the committee's unwavering stance on upholding constitutional order, emphasizing that this summons offers the invited officials an opportunity to clarify their positions in the interest of public transparency and democratic stability.

He warned that the House will not tolerate any form of political anarchy or legislative breakdown that undermines Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
