A press conference hosted by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Tuesday, May 6, took an unexpected turn when State Senator Ileana Garcia suddenly collapsed while delivering a speech.
Garcia, a Republican representing Florida’s District 36, was addressing environmental legislation when she appeared disoriented and stated she wasn't feeling well. Moments later, she fainted.
Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo, who was close by, swiftly caught her and helped her into a chair as concerned attendees rushed to assist. The incident was captured on video by The Florida Channel.
Despite the scare, Senator Garcia recovered quickly. Within a minute, she returned to the podium, lightened the mood with humor, and confidently completed her speech.
Governor DeSantis, smiling at the end of the video, seemed impressed by her resilience. Many commended Garcia for her poise and strength, calling her a “trooper” for finishing the event despite the health scare.
