The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old foreign national, Jibrin Ali, for allegedly impersonating a Nigerian soldier.
Ali, who hails from Zandar in Niger Republic, was apprehended during a routine police patrol near the Yankari Game Reserve in Alkeleri Local Government Area, a location known for sporadic criminal activity.
According to the state’s Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, the suspect aroused officers' suspicion through his behavior and initially resisted arrest when confronted.
“Upon interrogation, Jibrin Ali failed to provide any credible reason for his presence in the forest area, and investigators suspect he may have links to criminal groups,” the commissioner stated.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
In a separate operation the same day, police intercepted a trailer transporting over 1,000 bags of allegedly diverted iodized salt, with an estimated value exceeding ₦10 million. Two suspects, Sadik Jidda and Ibrahim Ahmad, were taken into custody, while the truck driver fled the scene.
Commissioner Aliyu commended the officers involved and reiterated the command’s commitment to proactive policing and crime prevention.
More details to follow as investigations continue.
